Our Circular Mission

We believe the only way to be truly committed to creating a kinder, more sustainable product is to be circular in our thinking and design.

Here are some of the ways that we close the loop on our manufacturing:

Up to 80% of a products environmental impact can be determined at the design stage.

This means we consider the materials we use very carefully. We love using recycled cotton - in fact we won't make a denim garment without it in! We take discarded garments, otherwise headed for landfill, shred them back into cotton fibres that we then mix with virgin cotton and make into new denim!

We actively design waste out of our collections. It takes effort and working collaboratively with everyone on the team. From design, to pattern cutting, from weaving to packaging. If there is waste we question why and how can we reduce it.

Here are some of the things we are doing:

Our patterns are laid out smartly to minimise cutting waste.
Denim and non denim off cuts are redesigned into the collection to create our limited edition patchwork pieces including our patchwork facemarks.
Off cuts from our recycled cotton pocketing fabric are utilised as wash care labels.
Any unusable waste is sent to our cotton recycling plant, where it is shredded down to fibre form and re-engineered to make new yarn for our denim production.

We avoid any single use materials where possible and use no virgin plastic in all our operations.

We package your treasures in either compostable bags or in reusable denim bags made by our brand partner NOWPDP, using deadstock denim rolls found at our mill. This not only reduces fabric wastage on our end but also lets you contribute to the circular economy by reusing your packaging bags.

seventy + mochi denim is designed to last. But if you feel your jeans have completed their journey with you, send them back to us for recycling so that together we can help to close the manufacturing loop and prevent unnecessary landfill or incineration.

We accept seventy + mochi denim in any condition and as a thank you for helping us close the loop, we will send you a voucher for 15% off your next purchase once we receive the jeans at our London HQ.

Postage is free. Please email us at info@seventymochi.com for a Royal Mail returns label. Please don't forget to include your full name and email address in the package so we can send you a voucher once we receive your jeans.

All denim collected by seventy + mochi is either sent to our partners at Thift+ to be resold, with 66% of the resale value going to charity. If your jeans can't be saved and resold, we send them to our recycling plant to be recycled and remade into a new pair.

Our recycling plant is home to mountains of pre-loved treasures. We put in the work to pull out vintage garments - repairing and up-cycling them when needed in our atelier. We use off cuts from our sampling and production room for patches when needed and we use shibori techniques for unique repairing to create truly one off pieces with plenty of life in them. We're proud to have joined The Jeans Redesign project. An initiative launched by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation -  Make Fashion Circular campaign in 2019, to tackle waste and pollution associated with conventional jeans production.

The project sets out guidelines for the minimum requirements for:
Based on the principles of the circular economy, the guidelines will work to ensure jeans last longer, can easily be recycled, and are made in a way that is better for the environment and the health of garment workers.
